NUSCL Player Of The Season 2009/2010 Jose Enrique

Our Members voted Jose Enrique as our Player of the Season for last season 2009-2010 with Jose coming top of the poll and narrowly edging out Andy Carroll and Kevin Nolan. Newcastle United kindly allowed us to make the presentation to Jose at St James’ Park before the match against Bolton.

The Presentation Party consisted of Andy Warren and daughter Louise, Ian Dormer, Nick Young, Daniel Douglas and Roger Douglass. Louise made the actual presentation of the crystal trophy together with a cheque for ₤500 to Jose’s nominated charity – The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation – the sixth year in a row of the Club making such a substantial contribution to charity.

We were most surprised on arriving at St James’ to find Nick Young’s mother already there – apparently on hearing that Nick was going she had blagged her way in along with her nephew who as a roving sports reporter for Look North made a DVD of the presentation which hopefully we will have the opportunity of seeing one day! We all enjoyed meeting Jose and seeing at first hand the hectic preparations taking place before any big match – it really is exciting meeting so many players making their way to the dressing room and spotting Supermac and Bobby Moncur preparing their press desks in readiness for the match.

Our thanks go to all who helped to make the day such a great success – to Jon Miller for arranging the competition and counting up the votes, to all our Members who contributed so generously to our charity appeal and especially to Des Kindley who did a fair impersonation of Jesse James on the train in collecting charity contributions, to Mark Hannen and Dan Sheridan of NUFC for arranging the meeting with Jose, to Ian Horrocks of NUFC for taking the photograph and most of all to Jose Enrique for his kindness and patience in signing so many shirts and other memorabilia – and smiling so warmly at our schoolboy attempts at speaking spanish!
